Other activitiesThe Association encourages participation in hockey in its broadest sense. All players are expected to undertake a brief Young Umpire course to give them an appreciation of the challenges (and rewards!) of umpiring. Both youngsters and adults can do a Foundation Umpire course that will enable them to umpire in our tournaments. Anyone getting a taste for umpiring can go on to do a Level 1 Umpiring course. This qualification would let an umpire officiate in the local hockey leagues. We test the hockey skills of the youngsters through our Stix Awards. Players receive their hard won medals and certificates at our prestigious Presentation Evening. Adult participation in the Association is actively encouraged. Even if you do not have hockey skills there are many ways in which you can help. We need managers to to the administration for teams so that our coaches can get on with coaching. We need people to help us run the Stix awards (normally in freezing rain!). We need tournament organisers, shirt washers, people to staff the reception desk on a Friday night, etc. We take our responsibilities very seriously and offer support and encouragement to those wishing to gain experience and qualifications. Courses available include first aid, child protection, coaching and umpiring. If you are interested in helping us in any capacity please get in touch using the "Contact us" link. |
