U10 Girls Tournaments 2011

The U10 girls have had mixed fortunes in their two post-Christmas tournaments. After the cancellation of the December fixture it was good to be able to play in January, despite the weather, which started off fine and gradually got wetter.

Two teams were entered and, although it had been hoped they were evenly matched, they fared vary differently. Cheltenham A drew 0-0 with Dursley and East Glos 2 but lost 2-0 to Worcester, Yate and East Glos 1.

The second Cheltenham team had more success, winning against Landsdown (2-0) and both Cirencester teams (2-0 Ciren A, 1-0 Ciren B), drawing 0-0 against Dursley and losing to Yate 2-0.

The squad's thanks go to Ellie Walker (U11) for playing goalie and enabling us to field a second team. It was the first tournament where she didn't have to play for both teams, as by Christmas Emily Cupper had joined the squad as U10 goalie.

By the time of the February tournament, an extremely windy day, the squad had gained a second goalie - Millie Till. However, Ellie and Helene from the U11s were drafted in to give us enough players for two teams. This time the results were a little more even.

Cheltenham A beat Cirencester B 1-0, Swindon 2-0 and Dursley A 1-0 but lost 3-0 to Cirencester A and 3-0 to East Glos A.

Cheltenham B won 2-0 against Cirencester C and 1-0 against Dursley B, drew 0-0 against both Worcester and East Glos B and lost to Gloucester 1-0.

As the season has progressed it has been good to see how the girls' playing has improved with better use of the whole of the pitch and more thought about where to pass the ball.
