Match Report Badgers v Stroud 05/03/2011

Cheltenham Badgers 2 – Stroud Badgers 0

On Saturday, the 6th of March, a young badger’s team met an equally young Stroud side with apparently a 10 year old playing for them in the forwards, but with an adult playing in defence.

Cheltenham started strongly and controlled the majority of the play. A good attack early on in the match led to a well earned short corner. Will Byrd pushed out to Matt Woods who then struck the ball with great accuracy into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Good link play throughout the first half led to many attacking runs but many were snuffed out by the adult at the back for Stroud.

Good defence controlled confidently by Tom Gabbot led to a counter attack from Ollie Cox who outpaced the opposition. A good shot led to a deflection which bounced off numerous opposition feet straight down the throat of Sam Woods, his first attempt found the keeper’s pads but the ball returned straight to him and he slotted the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Woods brothers 2 – Stroud 0!

Any attacks from Stroud were easily handled by the defence and Henry Davies in goal who finished the match with a clean sheet.

Cheltenham continued to push forward and should have scored more goals if their shooting had been sharper.

Overall a good display by a young Cheltenham side.
