Badgers v Gloucester Sat. 19th March 2011

The game started at a quick pace proving that both teams had some good talent. There were several early-on chances. However, we were playing nice wide hockey giving us the edge over Gloucester. Consequently, Sam Woods slotted a goal in, in the bottom corner after a good shot was saved from Alex Diesel. Unfortunately we didn’t have goal keeper, so we had Chris Bolton as a stand-in kicking player; who played very well and as a coach got to see us play from a different perspective.

Approaching the end of the first half, a well-worked Gloucester attack produced a shot which not even Chris could keep out. Both sides went into half time with heads held high with the score at 1:1

However, coming out of the break, Gloucester had the upper the hand and whilst Cheltenham where half asleep and Gloucester scored a goal. Making the score 2-1. With a couple of substitutions we pulled our socks up and started to play lovely hockey by pinging passes all over the pitch, as a result of this, we won a short corner. The ball was injected by Sam Steel and then passed back to him in a switch move, after that Sam smacked the ball across the goal for Ross Holland to finish off. Making the score 2-2.

The game carried on and quietened down apart from when Ross tried to double his goal tally with his head. In the end, the game was drawn and we greeted the waiting jacket potatoes in the clubhouse.
